Tem a textura e a apar\u00eancia de uma cera gordurosa. Apesar da p\u00e9ssima fama, o colesterol \u00e9 essencial ao organismo, pois est\u00e1 presente na estrutura de todas as c\u00e9lulas, forma \u00e1cidos biliares que atuam na digest\u00e3o e faz parte da composi\u00e7\u00e3o dos horm\u00f4nios e de algumas vitaminas, notadamente a vitamina D.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Qual a diferen\u00e7a entre o colesterol bom e o ruim?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O colesterol dito \u201cruim\u201d \u00e9 o LDL colesterol \u2013 abreviatura em ingl\u00eas para \u201cLow Density Lipoprotein\u201d ou lipoprote\u00ednas de baixa densidade -, o tipo de colesterol que facilita o dep\u00f3sito de gordura na parede dos vasos sangu\u00edneos. O colesterol \u201cbom\u201d \u00e9 o HDL colesterol \u2013 abreviatura em ingl\u00eas para \u201cHigh Density Lipoprotein\u201d ou lipoprote\u00ednas de alta densidade, e \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel pela \u201climpeza\u201d do sistema cardiovascular, fazendo o transporte reverso da gordura acumulada nas paredes das art\u00e9rias.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Quais os riscos para a sa\u00fade de quem tem colesterol alto?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u00edveis altos de LDL no sangue s\u00e3o um importante fator de risco para problemas no cora\u00e7\u00e3o, entre eles a doen\u00e7a das art\u00e9rias que podem determinar a angina ou o infarto. Al\u00e9m disso, tamb\u00e9m est\u00e3o relacionados a outros tipos de complica\u00e7\u00e3o como doen\u00e7as da principal art\u00e9ria do corpo \u2013 a aorta, al\u00e9m de dem\u00eancia e acidente vascular encef\u00e1lico \u2013 o derrame cerebral. Por outro lado, n\u00edveis altos de HDL podem conferir algum grau de prote\u00e7\u00e3o para estas doen\u00e7as.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fatores de risco<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hist\u00f3ria familiar: a presen\u00e7a de n\u00edveis elevados de gorduras no sangue pode ter origem gen\u00e9tica e ser herdada dos pais para os filhos. \u00c9 a chamada hipercolesterolemia familiar, condi\u00e7\u00e3o que raramente pode ser tratada apenas com mudan\u00e7as no estilo de vida. V\u00e1rios genes j\u00e1 foram associados \u00e0 esta condi\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sedentarismo: a atividade f\u00edsica ajuda a \u201cqueimar\u201d o colesterol ruim (LDL) e a aumentar o bom (HDL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dieta inadequada: excesso de gorduras e carboidratos, somado \u00e0 quantidade insuficiente de fibras e alimentos antioxidantes, pode causar aumento do colesterol ruim. Uma vez diagnosticado, o tratamento do colesterol elevado deve ser imediatamente iniciado, com ado\u00e7\u00e3o de mudan\u00e7as no estilo de vida e, se necess\u00e1rio, uso de medicamentos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Preven\u00e7\u00e3o<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A preven\u00e7\u00e3o se faz atrav\u00e9s de um estilo de vida saud\u00e1vel, com consumo moderado de gorduras saturadas e atividade f\u00edsica regular. Por\u00e9m, \u00e9 preciso estar ciente de que, do colesterol sangu\u00edneo que temos, somente 15% vem da alimenta\u00e7\u00e3o; o restante \u00e9 produzido especialmente pelo nosso f\u00edgado, e nesse caso, somente medica\u00e7\u00e3o consegue inibir sua produ\u00e7\u00e3o e reduzir os valores no sangue. As melhores dietas reduzem somente 10% do colesterol sangu\u00edneo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>H\u00e1bitos de vida saud\u00e1vel, ainda na inf\u00e2ncia e na adolesc\u00eancia, seriam a preven\u00e7\u00e3o primordial.
